Sounds in the Night

Chizuko Yoshida (mentioned on object), 1953

In her diaries, Chizuko Yoshida describes the importance of music in her life. Jazz and mambo, along with tango melodies such as La Cumparsita, music from the opera Carmen, and Schumann’s Träumerei were important sources of inspiration. Chizuko also sang herself. Her daughter Ayomi fondly recalls her mother singing arias in the studio or while cooking.
