Rain B

Chizuko Yoshida (mentioned on object), 1953

The avant-garde artist Chizuko Yoshida worked primarily in oils until 1953. Inspired by the printmakers in the Yoshida family, she also began making prints after marrying Hodaka Yoshida (1926-1995). This is one of her earliest works. Here, she captures the rhythm and sound of falling and splashing raindrops. The black dashes and dots representing the raindrops are reminiscent of musical notes.
