Flute glass with a portrait of William II

anonymous, c. 1650 - c. 1675

In 1647 Prince William II succeeded his father Frederick Henry as stadtholder. The prince’s arms are engraved on the back of the glass.

  • Description

    Platte voet met omgeslagen rand. Lage, holle, balustervormige stam met twee schijven. Hoge, trechtervormige kelk. Op de kelk is het borstbeeld van Stadhouder prins Willem II gegraveerd, omgeven door twee oranjetakken. Op de keerzijde zijn gekroonde wapen. Langs de bovenrand ranken, insecten en vogels. Onder de voorstelling twee maal een geknotte boom, waaruit een jonge loot ontspruit. Op de voet twee bloemranken.
