Portrait of a Little Boy, Possibly Louis of Nassau

This sitter is probably Louis of Nassau, an illegitimate son of Maurice. He is depicted wearing a gold medal bearing a portrait of his father. This medal was struck to celebrate the Capture of Grave in 1602. Louis was born at that time and is eighteen months old in this portrait. Did Maurice dedicate his victory to his youngest scion?

    Portret van een jongetje, misschien Lodewijk van Nassau (1602-65), later heer van Beverweerd, de Leck, Odijk en Lekkerkerk, onechte zoon van Maurits, prins van Oranje en Margaretha van Mechelen. Staande, ten voeten uit, een distelvink aan een touwtje op de rechterhand en een takje kersen in de linkerhand. Om de schouder een vierdubbele gouden keten met een portretpenning van Maurits, geslagen ter ere van de prins in 1602 na de inname van Grave.
