Beech

John Robert Cozens, 1789

In this print, Cozens depicts the same view of a beech tree, here combining aquatint with ‘wash’: ink applied with a brush. Shaded areas, where the aquatint is etched deepest, provide a painterly effect. A similar impression is created by the shadow on the tree trunk, right. Cozens enhanced the effect with pen and brush.
