Mobility aids and wheelchairs
The Rijksmuseum belongs to and is for everyone. We believe it is important that all visitors, with or without disabilities, feel welcome. That is why we are working to create a museum that is accessible both physically and in terms of content, for young and old, and for people with different needs. Whether you want to enjoy the museum at your own pace, need assistance, or are looking for additional information.
Wheelchairs, mobility scooters, and balance bikes
The entire museum is accessible to wheelchairs, mobility scooters, and balance bikes. We ask visitors with a mobility scooter or electric wheelchair to drive slowly. The elevator in the KPN Wng is too small for large mobility scooters. You can reach the exhibition spaces via the 19th-century wing. Ask a staff member to show you the way.
Rental
At the information desk, you can borrow wheelchairs, walkers, canes, strollers, and folding chairs.
Accessibility map
Ask at the information desk for the accessibility map , which shows the locations of elevators, benches, accessible restrooms, etc.
Elevator
There are two entrances with stairs and one entrance with an elevator. If you stand with your back to the Museumplein, the entrance with the elevator is on the left. A security guard will come to assist you with the elevator.
Wheelchair-accessible restroom
Wheelchair-accessible restrooms are available, equipped with a low sink.
Changing room
The changing room is a changing area for adults and older children. It features a mobile lift with a sling, a bed, and a sink. There is no toilet available. You may also bring your own sling (with loops). Ask at the Information Desk for the location. We’ll be happy to show you the way.
Companions
If you are unable to move around the museum independently, you may bring a companion. They may enter for free. However, they will need a (free) admission ticket and a start time. The start time must be reserved in advance. You can do so here. Select “other valid admission ticket” as the ticket option. The ticket can be picked up at the ticket counter.
Skip the line

Backpacks
Backpacks or oversized handbags are not permitted in the museum. Do you need to bring a bag into the museum for medical reasons? The Information Desk will gladly provide you with a label. This lets security know that your bag is permitted.
