Kleurtekening van de bamboe noodkraal waar Singalezen de olifanten opvangen en een tuig aanbinden. De olifanten worden hier uit de kraal gehaald. Met opschrift. Nr. 8 in de serie. Onderdeel uit het schetsboek van Jan Brandes, dl. 2 (1808), p. 127.

inscription: ‘När den wilde Elefant är bunden om halsen och om bakben blifver han smågen om utsläppt utur buren, ty man tager bort alla framståckar som honom utgången föhindra, och emedler tid har man fram fört på ömsa förr honom med långa bodshakar til at skrämma honom at han intet för hastig för ut springer, och et hundra man hålla honom fast med et långt tjåcktrep, på det han må sagta fram ut dragas af de twänne tama elefanter, in tills at han kommer i sit stall, twarest han blifver med hans hals och fram och bakfötter wäl blifver fastbunden, och sedan blifva de tama Elefanter bort led, så at den wilda ensam blifver ståendes.’
