Guided Tour Fashion in the Golden Age

The Rijksmuseum provides a wonderful exposition of how people in the 17th century dressed and presented themselves to the outside world. And, how important clothes were to self- expression. A twenty-year old would not dream of wearing the old-fashioned millstone ruff favoured by his father, instead preferring an elegant flat collar (and long hair)! Not only women were dressed in their finest gowns, but men too were keen to show off, flaunting bows, silk hose, dashing boots, and ornate fly fronts.
