Dick Bruna (signed by artist), 1967
Windows fascinate Bruna because they demarcate a scene, like a picture frame. They afford the viewer a visual anchor and lead their gaze from the external world into the private one of the sitting room. Bruna reinforced this movement by contrasting the warmly coloured indoor space with the cool colour of the curtains. Bruna regularly employed this contrast of warm and cold.
