Here Bruna made optimal use of the qualities of paper. Tearing pieces of paper allows for spontaneity and coincidence. Moreover, the white paper fibres along the deckled edges emphasize the two-dimensional surface. Bruna: ‘What appealed to me about Sandberg was that he worked with a flat surface.’ The driving force behind this, of course, was their common model Matisse.
