two fish

Dick Bruna (signed by artist), 1962

The device of two simplified figures placed inside an oval shape recurs regularly in the work of the French Cubist artist Georges Braque. Bruna used torn pieces of paper for his design, a technique betraying the influence of Braque and Cubism. This collage technique was commonly used in that art movement.
