Wine glass

anonymous, 1683

A ship with the flags of the seven provinces of the Dutch Republic and of the city of Delft is sailing on the water. It carries a lion, with two crowned herrings in his front paw. The inscription ‘’T Welvaere Vande Groote Vissereij’ (To the Prosperity of the Great Fishery) is a toast to successful catches.

Description
Lage voet met omgeslagen rand. Stam bestaande uit een holle ronde knop tussen twee platte schijven. Zich regelmatig verwijdende kelk, die aan de onderzijde versierd is met een gegolfde draad. Op de kelk is een leeuw gegraveerd staande op de voorplecht van een zeilschip met in zijn voorpoten twee gekroonde haringen. Het schip voert de vlaggen van Delft en van de Zeven Provinciën. Boven de voorstelling staat het opschrift ''t Welvaren van de Groote Visserey 1683'. Op de voet bloemtakken.
