View of Siam

Kaiserlich Franziskische Akademie (mentioned on object), Franz Xaver Habermann (mentioned on object), 1755 - 1779

Like Jan Luyken’s 1687 print, magnificent Siamese royal boats are also the subject of this hand-coloured print. However, the hills depicted here were not at all visible from the capital of Siam, and the European-style buildings lining the right bank were non-existent. Hence, such river views in faraway countries were conceived according to European pictorial tradition and enlivened with Asian elements.
