Theatre

attributed to Antoon Bauduin, 1862 - 1866

A theatre troupe of child actors puts on a scene from a Kabuki play. Westerners were fascinated by all things Japanese, including drama and music. Albert occasionally wrote somewhat disparagingly about the Japanese. Yet, like Antoon, he collected all manner of Japanese objects, so his interest in Japanese culture must have been genuine. Part of this collection was lost in a shipwreck in 1867.
