Various stray shoes were found on Nova Zembla. They were clearly not designed to withstand freezing temperatures. The stranded men soon replaced them with homemade fox-fur footwear.

    Rechterschoen, maat 38, enveloppegenaaid, met bandsluiting (veter ontbreekt). Het voorblad, de kwartieren en hielvoering zijn gemaakt van geitenleer en de enveloppe van kalfsleer. De zool is bij de teen gerepareerd door middel van een tip (een verzonken stukje leer).
