Plate bearing the arms of the Beekman family

In Canton in South China, VOC merchants ordered porcelain painted with family heraldic emblems for themselves as well as others. This plate featuring a coat of arms set in a coastal landscape is an early example. It was made for the affluent Beekman family of Zeeland.

  • Description

    Bord van porselein, beschilderd op het glazuur in blauw, rood, roze, groen, geel, zwart en goud. Op het plat het wapen van de familie Beekman. Het wapen heeft een zwarte achtergrond met gouden rozen of andere bloemen. Het helmteken is een halfnaakte figuur die een knuppel vasthoudt. Het wapen is omgeven door een dekkleed van bladranken. Op het bord is een rivierlandschap dat zich uitstrekt over de wand en een deel van de rand met paviljoens en boten. Op de rand een band met bloemranken. Twee chips in de rand. Wapenporselein met emailkleuren.
