Pair of shoes

anoniem, c. 1815

These shoes did not have a specific fit for right or left. The shoes would mould themselves to the feet while being worn. In the early 19th century, shoes began to be labelled for which foot they were meant: stamped on the insoles are the words droit (right) and gauche (left).
