Incense Burner and Bowl

anoniem, c. 0 - c. 199

These two objects were buried along with the deceased in ancient graves, a custom that originated in northern China during the first century BCE. They echo the shape of commonplace, everyday objects. Originally, their colours were bright and surfaces shiny. However, over time, as they lay buried in the ground, they lost their lustre and minor discolorations appeared.
