Gepolychromeerd beplankt mallenmodel (stuurboord) van een driemaster. Twaalf geschutpoorten op één dek, campanjedek en bakdek door gillingen aangegeven. Het schegbeeld is een vrouwelijk borstbeeld. Elliptisch hek van één verdieping, zijgalerij van één verdieping, versierd met snijwerk; roer met ronde roerkoning (Soetermeer's versie). Het model is voorzien van alle rusten met jufferblokken. Vlakke zeeg, één barkhout en één reehout. Gepiekt rondspant, vrij scherp onderwaterschip. Schaal 1:40 (schaal op model).

Explanatory note

  • Dit model laat de Amphitrite zien nadat zij was geraseerd tot korvet van 20 stukken; het model werd in 1837 in de modelkamer gedeponeerd. De korvet van 32 stukken Amphitrite, lang 39 m, werd in 1827-1830 door C. Soetermeer te Vlissingen gebouwd; geraseerd tot korvet van 20 stukken in 1836. Het schip werd in 1851 in Curaçao afgevoerd en het jaar daarop gesloopt.

Entry

Polychromed fully planked wooden half bracket model of the starboard side of a three-masted ship, mounted on a rectangular wooden backboard painted white with a stand.

The side of the ship is fully planked over frame moulds and painted black with a white band running along the full length of the main gun deck. Twelve recessed gun ports are situated on one continuous deck. The forecastle and poop have square hances. The sheer is flat. One wale and a sheer rail are indicated. The bow features a fully detailed beakhead with a carved female bust on top of a wreathed scroll as a billethead and a cathead decorated with a lion’s head, both painted gold. The elliptical stern has a taffrail and a quarter gallery decorated with carvings. Below the stern a round-headed rudder (Soetermeer’s version) is indicated. The hull is sharply S-bottomed and painted a metallic copper colour below the waterline. The position of three masts and the bowsprit is shown in a truncated form.

The 32-gun sloop of war Amphitrite, 39 metres long, was built by Cornelis Soetermeer (1782-1842) in Flushing from 1827 to 1830.2J.M. It was reduced to a 20-gun sloop of war in 1836, decommissioned in Curaçao in 1851 and broken up the year after.3A.J. Vermeulen, De schepen van de Koninklijke Marine en die der gouvernementsmarine 1814-1962, The Hague 1962, p. 15. This model shows Amphitrite after the vessel had been reduced to a 20-gun sloop.
