Tijdens het toernooi werd graaf Floris IV in de val gelokt door de jaloerse graaf van Clermont. Zijn vrouw, zichtbaar in het raam, zou een liefdesbrief aan Floris IV hebben verstuurd. Tijdens het toernooi stak hij hem dood.
