Explanatory note
In the early seventeenth century silver belts must have been a regular component of Dutch households; quite a few are mentioned in probate inventories and other sources. This example differs from the regular German production in the execution of its ornament; here the decoration is engraved, not etched. Dirk Jan Biemond, 4-07-2019
