Exhumation of People Executed on the Waalsdorpervlakte

Over 250 resistance fighters were shot to death in the dunes of the Waalsdorpervlakte near The Hague by the occupying German forces in the Second World War. This series of photographs records the exhumation and identification of these fatalities in June of 1945, one month after the end of the war. Two German soldiers are compelled to locate the graves under the watchful eye of the Hague police and Dutch Forces of the Interior.

    Serie toont het opgraven van geëxecuteerden op de Waalsdorpervlakte in juni 1945, dus kort na het einde van de oorlog. De reeks toont het opsporen van de lijken, het uitgraven en het onderzoek door een patholoog anatoom. Ook het verplaatsen van de lijken en onderbrengen in nieuwe doodskisten is in beeld gebracht. Alles gebeurt in aanwezigheid van Nederlandse militairen, een tweetal Duitse militairen in uniform. Opgraven en het tillen van de kisten gebeurt door mannen in burger, vermoedelijk voormalige NSB'ers.
