Bodhisattva
anonymous, c. 1100 - c. 1300
This bodhisattva sits in the so-called Maharajajila posture of royal ease, one arm resting on a raised knee. This pose also suggests that this figure is a so-called Water-Moon Guanyin, in which form the divinity contemplates the reflection of the moon in the water. This portrayal first originated in China in the 10th century.
