Check it like a historian

THE PROGRAM

This one-hour interactive tour aims to enhance students’ historical research skills. Students will practice analyzing and interpreting art works, historical documents and technical innovations from the museum collection. What can these sources tell us? What aspect makes them valuable historical sources? And also, what are the limitations of these sources? This tour covers different periods from Dutch history like colonialism and WW2. And a stop at Rembrandts Nightwatch at the Gallery of Honour will not be left out.

IB CURRICULUM

This Check it like a historian-tour is made compatible with the IB-curriculum, specifically with the IB History courses. The aim of the tour and assignments is to give students an insight into historical research and help students prepare to write their internal assessments (IA).

The tour and assignments are developed by museum educators and teachers from the Rijksmuseum and Eerde International Boarding School, who have been working together since 2017, creating an educational programme that complements the arts and culture curriculum for international schools, enabling students from all over the world to become acquainted with the art and history of the Netherlands.

GOOD TO KNOW

Please be 15 minutes prior to the tour at the assembly point for schools, outside the museum next to the regular entrances. You can report your group with one of our security guards. They will let you enter the museum. Once in the museum, you can go to the School Desk. This is the point where the tour will start.
