Fiep Westendorp
19 June till 13 September 2026
Jip en Janneke, Otje, Pluk van de Petteflet and Pim en Pom. Since the 1950s, the illustrations of Fiep Westendorp have been beloved by young and old alike. All of her original drawings have been preserved, and approximately 150 of them will be on display this coming summer at the Rijksmuseum.
From a young age, Fiep Westendorp (1916–2004) discovered her passion for illustration. She developed a unique style that continued to enchant both children and adults. From the 1950s onwards, she gave shape to iconic characters such as Jip en Janneke, Pim & Pom and many others, often alongside stories by Annie M.G. Schmidt. Her graphic strength lay in clear lines, minimal detail and a distinctive expressiveness that resonates across generation after generation.
The exhibition features original sketches, notes and works that showcase Westendorp's artistic freedom and playfulness.
