ABOUT YOUR VISIT

  • For a visit to the Rijksmuseum, booking a starting time is necessary. This applies to everyone, including Museumkaart holders.

Only Friends can visit without booking. As a Friend, you always have free and unlimited access and can come whenever you like without a starting time.

  • As long as you like, until closing time.

  • You can take photos in the Rijksmuseum, but please do not use flash. When taking photos, please be considerate of other visitors.

  • Free WiFi is available in the museum.

  • There is a free, supervised cloakroom where you can leave your bag, umbrella, daypack or school backpack.

Unfortunately, we do not have the facilities for large bags, travel luggage, folding bikes, musical instruments, skateboards etc.

At the Museum Square there is a Lockerpoint where you can store your luggage safely.

THE EXHIBITION

  • The booked time slot is the starting time for the temporary exhibition. After that, you can visit the permanent collection.

  • The exhibition is in the Philips Wing of the Rijksmuseum.

    • Family: Parents and their children can visit the exhibition together.
    • Group: It is possible to book for the exhibition for a maximum of 12 persons. There is limited space in the exhibition rooms, so we ask that you split up the group as much as possible.
  • Unfortunately, the Rijksmuseum will not organize guided tours inside the exhibition. An audio tour is available. This can be added for €6.50 per person when making the reservation. Or you could download the free Rijksmuseum app for special tours and smart routes.

  • That depends on the exhibition. You can assume that it is usually possible, provided you use your own whisper sets. For exhibitions, the maximum group size is 12 + guide. Registering as an external guide is then mandatory and can be done here: Register guest tour guides - Rijksmuseum.

Sometimes an exhibition is not suitable for external groups. Think of an exhibition from the past such as ‘Vermeer’ or ‘Frans Hals’. You can always check at salesdepartment@rijksmuseum.nl whether guided tours are allowed or not.

  • The capacity of the exhibition spaces is limited. To provide an optimal experience for all visitors, school classes are not allowed.
