The publications in the series Studies in History are the result of research conducted within the framework of the Johan Huizinga Fellowship, part of the broader Rijksmuseum Fellowship programme. The Johan Huizinga Fellowship, named after the Dutch cultural historian Johan Huizinga (1872–1945), focuses specifically on historical research into objects in the Rijksmuseum collection. Since 2015 this fellowship offers early career scholars the opportunity to conduct historical research into objects in the Rijksmuseum collection. This is made possible by the Johan Huizinga Fonds/Rijksmuseum Fonds.
