He was also involved in the Museo Nacional del Prado exhibitions The Young Van Dyck in 2012-2013 and Pure Rubens in 2018-2019 (the latter exhibition also transferred to Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen). Tamar van Riessen, Junior Curator of 17th-Century Dutch Painting
Tamar van Riessen is a Junior Curator of 17th-Century Dutch Painting at the Rijksmuseum. She studied Art History at Amsterdam’s VU University, and trained as a curator in 2022 during her Curating Arts & Cultures master’s programme at the University of Amsterdam. Her specialism is 17th-century genre paintings and the development of this art form. She curated the Rijksmuseum Schiphol Airport exhibitions Female Power (2021) and Setting the Table (2023), and contributed to the 2024 Frans Hals exhibition. Prior to her appointment at the Rijksmuseum, Tamar van Riessen worked at Christie’s in Amsterdam and Mauritshuis in The Hague.
Taco Dibbits, General Director
Taco Dibbits has been the Rijksmuseum’s General Director since 2016. He studied art history at VU University Amsterdam and the University of Cambridge, joining the Rijksmuseum in 2002 as a curator of 17th-century painting. In 2006 he was appointed Head of Fine and Decorative Arts, and two years later he became the museum's Director of Collections. Prior to joining the Rijksmuseum, he was the Director of the Old Masters department at Christie’s in London. Since joining the Rijksmuseum, Mr. Dibbits has played a key role in developing the layout of the new Rijksmuseum, guiding the museum’s acquisition activities and establishing the exhibition programme.
Jean-Michelle Wilmotte
The French architect, interior designer, and scenographer Jean-Michel Wilmotte designed the exhibition. The use of a contemporary deep blue and white color palette finds its inspiration in the high-contrast colors of Frans Hals’ paintings. Changes in color during the exhibition highlight the distinctions between his formal, official portraits and his more informal, non-official works. The scenography serves as a deliberate homage to the modernity, innovative technique, and overall oeuvre by employing specialized lighting to enhance the visual impact of the artist's brushwork and capture the nuanced details of his paintings.
Irma Boom
Along with her team, Irma Boom has been providing all aspects of the Rijksmuseum’s graphic design for the last 20 years. She has also designed numerous Rijksmuseum exhibitions, including All the Rembrandts, Modern Japanese Lacquer and Frans Hals. The 2023 exhibition Irma Boom: Art + Books was devoted to a personal selection from the Rijksmuseum collection relating to Irma Boom’s own work.
