You and your class could be the lucky winners and attend a party at the Rijksmuseum! In celebration of Rembrandt’s painting The Standard Bearer, we are organizing a standard competition. The winners will be invited to spend an unforgettable day at the museum.

A CELEBRATION FOR US ALL

There is so much to see at the Rijksmuseum; from spectacular model ships to world-famous paintings. In June we will be adding a special painting: Rembrandt’s The Standard Bearer, which has been in the possession of an extremely wealthy French family for centuries.

But from June, everyone will be able to enjoy the painting at the Rijksmuseum. That’s something worth celebrating! For this reason, the Rijksmuseum has decided to throw a big party for eight winners from years 6, 7 and 8 on Thursday 15 June. Included are a special tour of the museum, creative workshops and music.

DESIGN YOUR OWN STANDARD

With a banner or flag, you can show what you stand for. What is important to your class? You might do work to preserve nature, or you all love to exercise, or you want to make sure that everyone can be themselves. Please try and show this on your standard. Use a paintbrush, a pair of scissors, sew or glue things together... the options are endless! In the video at the bottom of this page, Sosha Duysker will help you get started.

PRIZE

A jury selects the eight top designs from all entries. We will print these designs on large fabric standards. The standards will be displayed at the Rijksmuseum. The winning classes will also be invited to attend the special opening party at the Rijksmuseum on Thursday 15 June. You do not need to worry about transportation, as we will arrange for buses to pick up and drop off the winning classes.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

  • Create a design on A3 paper (297x420mm).
  • Write a short motivation of no more than 200 words explaining what your class stands for and how this is reflected in your design.
  • Take a photo of your design (or scan it) and send it with your motivation to vaandel@rijksmuseum.nl before Monday 15 May. Include the email address of your contact person and the address of your school in the email.
  • Please note: keep your original design in a safe space. Because we will also ask the eight winners to send their design by post. Then we will be able to make really good scans of the winning designs.
  • You can only submit one design per class.
  • The results will be announced on Wednesday 17 May.
  • The competition is intended for pupils in years 6, 7 and 8 in primary education.
  • Save the date of Thursday the 15th of June, because who knows, your class could be one of the winners!
