Young Man Seated on the Ground, with One Leg Extended

Rembrandt van Rijn (mentioned on object), 1646

This study originated during one of Rembrandt’s lessons for his pupils. Rembrandt sketched the model from life directly on the copperplate, while his students also drew him on paper, each from a different angle. Afterwards, Rembrandt worked the plate anew, intensifying the shadows with the aid of a burin.
