Wine glass

anonymous, c. 1650 - c. 1675

The bowl is engraved with scenes from the life of Bacchus, the god of wine. They are taken from illustrations by Jacob Matham in a book about Bacchus, published in 1616.

    Platte voet. Holle, balustervormige stam met drie schijven. Licht uitlopende, aan de onderzijde afgeronde kelk, waarop gegraveerd Bacchus op een ton met naast zich een trommel, de methamorphose door Bacchus van Ampelus in een wijnstok en een putto met een hoorn van overvloed zittend op een ploeg.
