Fish bowl. Porcelain, enamel colours and gold over the glaze. China, c. 1740 - 1760. This bowl belonged to the sinologist Jean Theodore Royer (1737 - 1807) of The Hague. Royer studied Chinese language and culture; he amassed a vast collection of Chinese artefacts and art.
