Various Victories of the Dutch Republic

Gerard van Bylaer, 1602

Commemorating Dutch liberty. Many medals were made to commemorate important events or people. The Dutch revolt against the Spanish king that began in 1568 and the ups and downs of the independent Dutch Republic, which existed from 1588, were ample reasons for striking medals.
