Vase

anonymous, c. 1550

The wall of this vase is decorated with foliate scrolls incorporating imaginary creatures such as dragons. The theme is continued in the handles, which are shaped like griffins. The decoration alludes to artefacts from Classical antiquity that were excavated around 1520.
