Louis Napoleon made Amsterdam the capital of his kingdom and assembled national treasures there. On 31 July 1806 he had important trophies, including captured flags, transported to Amsterdam from the Binnenhof (Dutch Parliament building) in The Hague. The convoy was headed by this banner, whose text translates as: ‘Louis Napoleon, King of Holland, presents to his capital Amsterdam these trophies seized by brave Netherlanders from their enemies’.

    Wit vaandel; beschilderd met de vluchtzijde onder: bovenaan het wapen van Amsterdam gedekt door de keizerskroon en gehouden door twee aanziende leeuwen. Daaronder in zwarte kapitalen: LOUIS NAPOLEON KONING VAN HOLLAND SCHENKT AAN ZYNE HOOFDSTAD AMSTERDAM DEZE ZEGETEKENEN DOOR DAPPERE NEDERLANDEREN OP DERZELVER VYANDEN VEROVERD. Rondom franje zwart-rood, langs de vluchtzijde iets langer dan aan de andere drie zijden. Aan de vluchtzijde is een latje ingenaaid. Met lintjes bevestigd aan een verguld stokje met knoppen.
