The Three Crosses

Rembrandt van Rijn, 1653

Christ hangs from the Cross between two thieves and is surrounded by apostles, his mother, followers and soldiers. This monumental sheet is the pendant to Christ Presented to the People (on the opposite partition wall). Just as there, this scene is fully executed in drypoint, which had almost never been done before. Moreover, Rembrandt pulled the print on costly vellum.
