anonymous, c. 1715 - c. 1740

In the early 18th century, Dutch furniture was strongly influenced by England, so much so that it is unclear in which of the two countries this chair was made. In any case, this type - with a tall, unupholstered back - came from England and was known here as an ‘English chair’. The curved back was designed to make sitting more comfortable.

  • Description

    Stoel van notenhout. Het meubel heeft een beklede zitting. Het rust op S-vormige voorpoten die eindigen in bokshoeven. Het kruis heeft geschulpte zijsporten en twee dwarssporten, waarvan de achterste recht is, de voorste opengewerkt en versierd met een vaas, voluten en schubben. De hoge rug is licht horizontaal gehold en heeft een opengewerkt middenblad, met geschulpte omtrek en versierd met acanthus. Het raam is geprofileerd en heeft stijlen; de bovendorpel met voluten en een lambrekijn-motief.
