Chair

anonymous, c. 1620 - c. 1650

The back of the chair is heaving with richly carved decoration: interlaced strapwork with foliage and flowers, bunches of fruit, a cherub’s head and two lions bearing shields. The openwork back is ornamented with two rows of vase-shaped ebony spindles. The upholstery was taken from another chair.

  • Description

    Stoel van palissanderhout. Het meubel heeft een beklede zitting en rust op poten, die huis en geleding vertonen en verbonden zijn door vier accoladevormig geschulpte ondersporten en vier bovensporten met een tandlijst. De rugstijlen zijn versierd met gestoken vlechtband en, alternerend, een palmet of rozet. De rug heeft twee sporten met boogjes, gedragen door ebben balusters. De bovenste sport is versierd met hanekoppen, vruchtentrossen en een cherub en wordt bekroond door drie ebben vaasjes.
