Small Grey Landscape

Rembrandt van Rijn, c. 1640

This is one of Rembrandt’s first etchings of a landscape. He used a tiny copperplate, and it is remarkable that such a small etching has been preserved. At the left along the water is a house with a woman in the doorway. Somewhat left of centre can be seen a man under a tree who seems to be working.
