anonymous, c. 1770 - c. 1775

A woman sits at a table reading, while two children and a servant chat with one another. The Chinese painter used typical European artistic devices –perspective and shading –to suggest depth. The draped curtain is also a stylistic element derived from Western painting.

    Plaque, beschilderd in emailkleuren met een dame achter een tafel, een bediende en twee kinderen. De personen bevinden zich op een overdekt terras. de achtergrond is uit de plaat weggezaagd en achter de opening is een waterlandschap, geschilderd op een stuk papier geplakt. De voorstelling wordt aan de voorzijde omsloten door een zwaar, opgenomen gordijn. De figuren en architectuurelementen zijn in ondiep reliëf aangegeven. Originele zwart gelakte lijst met eekhoorns en wijnranken in goud.
