Old Man with a Flowing Beard, Fur Cap and Velvet Cloak

Rembrandt van Rijn (mentioned on object), c. 1631

The large format of these prints enabled Rembrandt to devote more attention to the men’s costumes. They wear fur caps, a turban and oriental clothing, as is often the case in 17th-century tronies. His models are two different men: one with a short beard and the other with a flowing one. Both, incidentally, have been thought to be Rembrandt’s father.
