Gunlock (Percussion)

Percussieslot met messing huis en ijzeren mechaniek, haan, bevestigingsbout en ring om het zundgat. Het moet in de lengte aan de rechterzijde van de slotverhevenheid gemonteerd worden en heeft daarvoor een verticale bevestigingsbout en een nok onderop. De hamer wordt met een ketting, die naar voren door een oog loopt, naar beneden getrokken, terwijl een nok aan de linkerzijde van het slot hem naar links duwt; eenmaal beneden wordt de hamer door een veer aan de andere kant van het huis weer naar rechts geduwd; dit is om te voorkomen dat de hamer met geweld wordt teruggeslagen door de vlam uit het zundgat als afgevuurd wordt. De hamer komt neer in een ijzeren ring, die om het zundgat ligt.

Entry

Percussion lock with a brass box and iron mechanism, cock, fastening bolt and a ring around the vent. It is designed to be mounted lengthwise at the right-hand side of the vent patch, for which it has a vertical fastening bolt and a notch underneath. The hammer is pulled down by means of a chain which goes through a ring, while a notch on the left-hand side of the lock pushes the hammer to the left; at the lowest position it is pushed back to the right by a spring located at the other side of the body; this is to avoid the hammer from being pushed back violently by the flame that comes out of the vent when the gun is fired. The hammer strikes in a ring, which surrounds the vent.

This lock was found without a label or catalogue number attached to it. In his catalogue Obreen does not provide any details for number 713.1J.M. Obreen, Catalogus der verzameling modellen van het Departement van Marine, The Hague 1858, no. 713. It is a variation of NG-MC-706-2.
