Mirror Frame
attributed to Herman Doomer, attributed to workshop of Herman Doomer [rejected attribution], c. 1640 - c. 1655
Foliate scrolls inhabited by animals have been pressed into the baleen strips. These motifs are copied from prints after designs by Hans Janssen that were published in Amsterdam around 1625. The artist who carved the moulds has fashionably softened all the elements. Although he did not introduce actual auricular motifs, the influence of the kwab style is nonetheless apparent.
