Man
Kinke Kooi, 1999
Kooi succeeds in suggesting both spatial bulges and material surfaces with lines. They add body as well as convincing texture to her renderings of trees and buttocks. However, she also uses these lines more directly, as stuffed rolls. She ‘sculpts’ three-dimensional forms with them, like the word ‘MAN’ and the tunnel leading into depth here.
