Group portrait of seven men on Dejima

attributed to Antoon Bauduin, 1862 - 1866

Letters Albert sent home from Japan are our main source of information about the brothers’ lives in Japan. Because of these letters, we know that it was Antoon who took pictures there, but Albert may occasionally have lent a hand. Here we see them both in a simple, half-open studio in a garden on Dejima. Antoon is the one standing on the right, Albert is seated on the left.
