anonymous, c. 1500 - c. 1600

This ink painting of geese, together with the quail painting on the left, present two sides of Japanese animal painting. In contrast to the colourful, decorative style of Mitsuoki, here the geese are rendered in mono-chrome tints. The essence of ink painting is the potency of the line.
