De Bonaire, lang 45 m, werd gebouwd door de Nederlandsche Stoomboot Maatschappij, Etablissement Fijenoord in Rotterdam in 1876-1877 voor dienst in West-Indië. Omgebouwd tot logementschip in 1902 in Hellevoetsluis en in 1923 overgedragen aan de Zeevaartschool in Delfzijl, waar zij tot de dag van vandaag ligt, en herdoopt werd tot Abel Tasman.
