Design for a Bracelet

Henri Cameré, c. 1864 - c. 1894

This bracelet design wonderfully illustrates the design process. Although not all of the links are worked out or coloured in, the motif has been laid down. Inscribed at the upper right is pour U Wiese, perhaps referring to the French goldsmith Jules Wièse. The scrollwork of the acanthus leaves is a recurring motif in the neo-styles and used in jewellery by both Wièse and Froment-Meurice.
