Composition 66

Ger Gerrits (signed by artist), c. 1945 - c. 1955

While Gerrits preferred the primary colours associated with De Stijl, he also made black-and-white works such as this print. Moreover, he clearly wanted to depart from De Stijl’s flat and even manner of painting with his abstract representations. He placed loose, stylized organic forms floating up in space like weightless elements before a network of lines.
