Getting started with the collection:
Buste van Johannes Petrus Hazebroek (1812-1896), letterkundige
Keller, Johan, 1893
Johannes Petrus Hasebroek (1812 - 1896). Marble, J. Keller, 1893. Hasebroek was a popular poet, writer and preacher. With Groen van Prinsterer and Beets he belonged to the orthodox Protestant revivalist movement. The revivalists sought to encourage a more profound religious life, placing the emphasis on personal religious experience, conversion and piety. Hasebroek studied in Leiden. There he met Nicolaas Beets and they remained friends for the rest of their lives. His final years as a preacher were in Amsterdam. Here he was in frequent demand as a guest speaker: for example, at the 25th-anniversary celebrations of the reign of William III in 1874. This sculpture was given a place in the Rijksmuseum in 1893. Hasebroek was present and gave his last public speech here.
